What does the Honey Lemon Yoga name mean?

I was born in Kealakekua, Hawaii, and “Honey Girl” is a Hawaiian expression for beloved daughter.
I lost my father when I was very young, so having a reference point to my birth place and the special love and confidence my father had for me is an anchor that fuels my passion for sharing yoga with the world.

Highlighting the “Honey Lemon” idea draws to mind the gentle calming and soothing effect of Honey Lemon tea which emulates the experience I am aiming for in our yoga practice. Also, in the pursuit of good mental health and inspired by my new favorite TV show “This is Us”, we can take the sourest lemons life has to offer and make something sweet.
More than all those references though, Honey Lemon Yoga is fun to say, and our goal is help you have fun and not take anything too seriously!

The Honey Lemon Yoga for Youth Mental Health program

The Ontario Ministry of Education revamped the Secondary School Physical Education curriculum in 2015 and added Mental Health as a key pillar to well-being for high school students.
The Honey Lemon Yoga for Youth Mental Health program brings the same mobile and accessible functionality of the workplace wellness program to young people to support good mental health. Young people today are so connected to the world around them electronically they often lack resources to become present in the physical experience of space and time. Yoga for youth mental health creates new support tools for young people to connect to both their physical and mental health and the community around them in person.

Adding Thai Massage to the Honey Lemon Yoga programs 

After two years of teaching yoga in both workplaces and with young people, I felt that I had reached a plateau in what I was offering my students. I wanted to learn appropriate and powerful ways to connect with people as they learned the ancient wisdom tradition of yoga. As a certified Thai Massage practitioner, I use my training to help participants connect to where their feet, heart, shoulders and hands are in the present moment. Feeling too shy for an in-person yoga class? 

I love working with people who have previously decided yoga was not for them! It is thrilling to me to show someone who calls themselves “the least flexible and coordinated person ever!” that they can touch their toes and move gracefully between yoga poses in a powerful way. The Honey Lemon Yoga program is available via Skype where I will teach you the foundations of yoga over the internet from the comfort of your own home. What I want you to know is…

I want you to know that in this very moment if you gently tuck in your chin and breathe gently through your nose that you are allowing your body’s self soothing mechanisms to actively change your current state. I want you to know that just as you are, you are powerful beyond your wildest imagination and that yoga can be an incredible tool to help you fulfill your desires and find good mental health.
